My name is Piet Bakers. I am 20 years old and I’m a youth worker at Refilwe Community Project located in Gauteng Province, South Africa. Recently, I had the pleasure of visiting Linkenheim, Germany following an invitation from the Gospel Tribe ministry. During my visit, I became very encouraged by the Gospel Tribe’s work and inspired by the education they are providing to the youth in Germany. In addition, I’ve been invited to join their Bible School. Attending Bible School is a great opportunity for me to further my studies and continue to grow as a leader.

What is Gospel Tribe?

Founded by my good friends Gernot and Sabine Elsner, Gospel Tribe is an interdenominational youth mission with the goal of “leading teenagers and students close to God’s heart and mobilizing them for evangelism and missions through church service, conferences, evangelistic meetings and mission programs.” Working with churches, ministries and movements of all kinds of denominational backgrounds, they strive to train young people to be the leaders of tomorrow.

What is my personal mission?

After completing Bible School, my mission is to lead a youth program within the Refilwe Community Project, reaching out to the young people of South Africa.

The program, named YOUTH MISSION SOLUTION (YMS), will aim to create an environment that generates opportunities for young people to have a safe and healthy journey into adulthood, equipping them with the necessary skills, knowledge and social connections to not only make informed decisions about their own life, but also to break the cycle of poverty that is so common amongst African youth.

The YMS strategy has two distinct, yet complimentary focuses:

1) Healthy adolescent development (using a research-based method titled The 40 Assets Development Strategy)

2) Spiritual development and wholeness through teaching about Jesus Christ and his offer of salvation for every person

How can you help?

Although the school’s founder has graciously offered to help me with my Gospel Tribe Bible School fees, I still need to raise about R23000, 000 (South African currency) to cover the cost of my flight. Any donation, no matter how large or small can help me get closer to my fundraising goal, and if all you can offer at this time is your thoughts and prayers, I will happily accept them too.
